Build your own herbal apothecary at home: Here’s what you need to get started.

Building a home herbal apothecary doesn't have to be complicated, expensive, or intimidating. If you're just beginning your herbal journey, here are a few foundational herbs we love to have on hand (and many can be grown right in your own garden!):

Chamomile

A gentle, calming herb that supports relaxation, digestion, and rest. Chamomile is widely loved for its soothing nature and is often enjoyed as a simple tea in the evening.

Peppermint

Refreshing and uplifting, peppermint is wonderful for digestion, tension, and mental clarity. It's easy to prepare as a tea and pairs beautifully with other herbs.

Ginger

A warming, grounding root that supports digestion and circulation, ginger is especially helpful during colder months. Enjoy it fresh or dried!

Calendula

Often used externally, calendula supports skin health and gentle healing. It's a lovely beginner herb for salves, oils, or infused preparations.

Lemon Balm

Bright and comforting, lemon balm supports the nervous system and emotional wellbeing. It's a favorite for stress-filled days and easy to enjoy as a tea.

Starting with just a few herbs allows you to learn their personalities, uses, and preparations without feeling overwhelmed. Over time, your apothecary becomes not just a collection of jars, but a reflection of your needs, seasons, and rhythms.

Ready to build your apothecary and start making remedies with confidence? Join us for our very first Herbal Apothecary Hour, part of our new virtual monthly series led by herbalist Tyler Mauler. Together, we will explore specific herbs for the month, learn safe and practical ways to prepare them, and begin creating a home apothecary that feels supportive and sustainable.

A gentle reminder: Always consult your physician or a qualified healthcare provider before starting any herbal protocol to ensure there are no interactions with current medications or health conditions.
