Grief isn’t linear, and you don’t have to navigate it alone.
Grief doesn't follow a straight path. It isn't a checklist of emotions to complete or a timeline to meet. Grief ebbs and flows, often unexpectedly -- what may feel like progress one day might feel like deep sorrow the next. This is normal. This is human.
Researchers and psychologists agree: grief is a non-linear process. Studies from Yale University and Harvard Medical School show that grief unfolds in varied patterns over time, with emotional spikes and periods of calm. It may resurface around anniversaries, smells, songs, or even seasons. Rather than moving "on" from grief, many people learn to carry it with greater ease over time, with the right support.
That's why we created our Grief Support Group -- a safe, nurturing space where you don't have to figure it out alone.
Led by Charles R. Fisher, certified executive function, emotion, and spiritual coach, and Joseph Mauler, LCPC, NCC, licensed therapist and clinic director, this group invites you to come as you are. Whether you are experiencing fresh loss or carrying years of unspoken grief, you will be met with compassion, understanding, and tools to help you navigate the waves. Together, we will explore gentle conversation, emotional regulation tools, and practices that support connection, resilience, and hope.
This group begins this September and meets every other Thursday at 7:15 PM. Our Grief Support Group is eligible for full or partial coverage by CareFirst insurance. To learn more, click here.
