More than a workout: Meet the heart behind our yoga program at Evolve Wellness.
When many people think of yoga, they think of stretching, flexibility, or exercise. For Evolve Wellness founder and CEO Tyler Mauler, yoga became something much more: a pathway to healing.
At just 9 years old, Tyler was diagnosed with Lyme Disease after months of widespread pain that made even getting out of bed difficult. One of the recommendations she received in the years after, when she had continued to experience inflammation and lingering symptoms, was yoga. At first, she was skeptical.
"I thought I had to be flexible to do yoga," Tyler said. "It never occurred to me that I had it the wrong way -- I didn't need to be flexible to do yoga; yoga would help me become flexible. When I finally rolled out the mat and slipped back into downward dog, I found that yoga was not just for the body; it is for the mind as well."
That experience ultimately inspired her to become a yoga instructor and, years later, to build Evolve Wellness -- a place where people could find the same support, healing, and a sense of connection that yoga gave her.
Today, Tyler holds certifications as Yoga Instructor, Vinyasa Flow Specialist, Personal Trainer, Specialist in Fitness Nutrition, and Herbalist. But perhaps more importantly, she understands what it feels like to be overwhelmed, stressed, in pain, or disconnected from your body, and how powerful it can be to find practices that bring you back to yourself.
